“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. As you know this is the very first verse in our Bibles, yet it can just seem like another verse that we read. That is until you think about it a bit more. Imagine, for a moment, our Creator God forming the world as we know it, doesn’t it just blow your mind, the power and might that formed it all! It may help you to understand God’s power when I mention two tsunamis.
 
Now for those of you who remember there was a frightening tsunami in Japan where the catastrophic waves reached 40 metres high. There was a huge earthquake first and the tsunami wave followed. With modern communication we, of course, now know of these events virtually as they happen.
 
Surprisingly there was a another tsunami at a remote fiord called Tracy Arm in Alaska last year which has only recently been known about. Scientists have been looking at data and photographs of this event and have discovered the cause and the enormity of what happened. Because a glacier started to melt it exposed the base of a cliff face which it was basically holding up. Taking this support away meant the rock material collapsed, sending virtually half a mountainside into the fiord. This set up the tsunami wave. What is truly astonishing is that the wave was 482 metres high!! That height easily dwarfs buildings like the shard in London and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Because the area where this happened is so remote, even cruise ships rarely go there. What is also surprising is that at the time it happened nobody even knew about it, in fact months went by before it was discovered.
 
I go back to Genesis 1:1 where Almighty God brought all things, the lands, the oceans, and the skies into being. He is the Almighty God who, by His power, created you. All this may make you seem insignificant, but He has created you for this time. Let his power work in you.
