This little light of mine!!

Picture for this little light

A while ago we visited our son where he and his wife ran a Christian Camp for young people in Louisiana, USA.

One day, while we explored around the site, and the wider area, he pointed out to us a large field surrounded by trees and shrubs and he called it “Firefly Meadow”. Now, for those who don’t know, Louisiana has quite large swamp areas and is very damp, hot, and humid and maybe that’s why the fireflies like this particular meadow.

To me, it looked just like a type of wild meadow, but at night it became a different story. On one particular night our son took us out to this meadow and because there were no buildings around, or street lights, it was very dark. There was just the dim light of the silvery moon showing the top branches of the trees as they reached up. Then we got to the meadow and there, to our amazement and surprise, were thousands of dancing lights, flickering and putting on a spectacular display. Each firefly has the ability to emit a light from their bodies enough to be clearly seen in the gloom of the night.

It doesn’t take a huge step here to see the lesson to learn. Read Philippians Ch 2:12-16 (a passage entitled, “shining as stars”). And Daniel Ch 12:3. Surely we need to shine out in the place where God has put us, we need to shine that others may come to know our Lord and Saviour. Daniel 12:3 says, “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of heaven …..”

I’m sure God has given my body and your body the ability to shine out for Him.
